Background of the Study

In an era where cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, employee awareness and preparedness are critical to safeguarding organizational IT systems. Banks, as custodians of sensitive financial data, are particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks, including phishing, malware, and insider threats. IT security training programs aim to equip employees with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify, respond to, and prevent cyber incidents (Garba & Musa, 2023).

In Nasarawa State, where digital banking adoption is rapidly growing, banks are investing in IT security training programs to reduce vulnerabilities and improve overall security. However, the effectiveness of these programs in achieving desired outcomes remains a topic of concern, especially considering the persistent occurrence of security breaches linked to human error (Adeola et al., 2024). This study appraises the effectiveness of IT security training programs for bank employees in Nasarawa State.

Statement of the Problem

Despite increased investment in IT security training, many banks in Nasarawa State continue to experience security breaches caused by employee errors or negligence. This raises questions about the adequacy and effectiveness of the training programs provided. Factors such as insufficient training content, lack of engagement, and limited follow-up may contribute to these challenges (Bello et al., 2023).

This study evaluates the effectiveness of IT security training programs in equipping employees to prevent and mitigate security risks in banks in Nasarawa State.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the content and delivery of IT security training programs in banks in Nasarawa State.

2. To evaluate the impact of IT security training on employees' ability to identify and respond to security threats.

3. To recommend strategies for improving the effectiveness of IT security training programs.

Research Questions

1. What is the content and delivery method of IT security training programs in banks in Nasarawa State?

2. How effective are IT security training programs in enhancing employees' ability to identify and mitigate security threats?

3. What strategies can improve the effectiveness of IT security training programs?

Research Hypotheses

1. The content and delivery of IT security training programs are not adequate to address security threats.

2. IT security training programs significantly enhance employees' ability to mitigate security threats.

3. Improved training strategies significantly increase the effectiveness of IT security programs in banks.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on banks in Nasarawa State, appraising their IT security training programs for employees. Limitations include variations in training programs across banks and potential biases in employee responses during evaluation.
